Political actors in advertising

Is Matthew McConaughey following in Ronald Reagan's footsteps?

One of Hollywood's most distinctive actors, he's known to many of us from 1993's indie comedy movie 'Dazed and Confused', 'The Lincoln Lawyer' (2011), and/or 'Dallas Buyers Club' (2013), veering seamlessly from casual sexy through down-and-out to implacable across his varied roles.
In 2019, he became a professor of practice at the Moody College of Communication at the University of Texas, his home state with his wife the Brazilian-American model and designer Camila Alves and their three children.
McConaughey also has a select body of work in the advertising arena. Dry humour for Lincoln vehicles, topless for Dolce & Gabbana The One fragrance, Doritos for this year's Super Bowl, and a mould-breaking, one-minute promotion of his book, 'Greenlights' - no special effects, no dressing up, just the man himself talking to the camera.
And Matthew McConaughey's name has just re-surfaced in connection with a run for Governor of Texas - a role that will be up for grabs next year, and which the 'True Detective' star has now said he is 'seriously considering'.
Late last year, he refuted the notion, telling presenter Stephen Colbert: "Right now, no. I don't get politics.Politics seems to be a broken business, politics needs to redefine its purpose."
However, he also said:

"As I move forward in life, yes,
I am gonna consider leadership roles
where I can be most useful"

From Hollywood screen to political stage
He would not, of course, be the first.
Austrian-American body-builder and actor, Arnold 'The Terminator' Schwarzenegger, became the most recent Republican Governor of California, serving from 2003 to 2011.
Decades earlier, fellow movie star Ronald Reagan held the same position from 1967 to 1975. Reagan went on to become US President (1981-1989).
In terms of advertising credentials, you can find Schwarzenegger in a variety of Japanese commercials, while he made a hit in 2016 with his 'Arnold Alarm Clock' spot, and teamed up with Terminator co-star Linda Hamilton and basketball players Kawhi Leonard and Paul George for an ESPN promotion of 'Terminator: Dark Fate' in 2019.
Ronald Reagan was well-known for his promotions of hand-cleansing Boraxo soap products.
