With the US midterm elections just around the corner, The White House put out this LEGO music video, presenting a Trump-like figure looking fierce as he points to all his 'Promises Made, Promises Kept'. While the substance is essentially informative, the style is very much about capturing attention and stirring emotions. The trend for using LEGO figurines to make socio-political points in precisely this way kicked off earlier this year, when Tehran-based digital media organisation Explosive Media (also known as Akhbar Enfejari or Explosive News) started putting out short satirical, AI-generated videos on U.S.–Iran relations and Middle Eastern conflicts. The format gained a lot of traction and was swiftly imitated by US President Donald Trump's administration, bringing into question the infantilisation of serious issues across the world. What do you think of it? What purpose does it serve? As defined by the BBC: "The outcome of the midterms will decide which political party - Trump's Republicans or opposition Democrats - controls Congress and how easy it is for the president to carry out his plans. The results are also seen as a measure of how happy people in the US are with the president's performance so far".
