Most of us will have heard of luxury French fashion designer Christian Dior. Fewer will know about his younger sister Catherine, a Resistance fighter in World War II who survived concentration camps and went on to dedicate her life to cultivating flowers for the Dior fragrances. After the war, Dior brought in the revolutionary 'New Look', defined by lavish, opulent designs that broke away from wartime fabric rationing. He said of his ultra-feminine, Nature-inspired creations: ‘I turned them into flowers, with soft shoulders, blooming bosoms, waists slim as vine stems, and skirts opening up like blossoms'. That same year, 1947, he asked his perfumier Paul Vacher to create ‘a collection that smells like love’ for his first fragrance. This latest campaign brings fresh impetus to the 1947 perfume - "an unconventional chypre floral loaded with galbanum, gardenia, rose, leather and patchouli" (Wallpaper) - with the anime-inspired presentation and title 'A Story of Love and Perfume'.
