Maternal mental health: 'The Secret to Motherhood'

This 60-second campaign by the US Ad Council sets out to encourage new and expecting moms to recognize the signs of perinatal mental health challenges, and to prioritize their mental health. "Because there is no secret to motherhood," it says, "and when moms take care of their mental health, their babies benefit, too". It's designed to focus on the early,most vulnerable stages of motherhood, and illustrates that acknowledging an issue and seeking support is a strength, not a weakness. "The real secret to motherhood isn't having all the answers. It's knowing you don't have to go through it alone," says the Council. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that 'one in five moms experience symptoms, and maternal mental health conditions are the number one leading cause of pregnancy-related deaths'.
