Mamdani: "Benjamin Netanyahu is a war criminal"

New York's Mayor, Zohran Mamdani, has been making his mark on social media with various to-camera campaigns tackling issues - such as ticket touting during the recent FIFA World Cup - to promote the Big Apple with a straightforward delivery and some gentle humour. This two-minute campaign strikes a much more serious note and will undoubtedly stir up controversy as he calls on President Trump to work with the International Criminal Court (ICC) to have Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrested as per the 2024 ICC warrant. "He should be arrested and stand trial," maintains the mayor, saying bluntly what politicians highlight through silence. "My administration examined every legal avenue available to determine whether New York City could execute that warrant. The law is clear: we do not have that authority. The federal government does. So we are calling on the United States to uphold international law, cooperate with the ICC, apprehend Benjamin Netanyahu and transfer him to The Hague to face justice". As international outrage continues over the Gaza conflict, many argue that the USA - along with the UK and other countries - is completely under the sway of Israel. Mamdani continues: "We cannot end this genocide on our own. But we can use every tool available to defend humanity and uphold justice. That is the responsibility of this city. And it is my commitment as mayor". The mayor's speaking out sparked a response from Trump on the president's own channel, Truth Social: It stated that Netanyahu "will not be arrested, in any way, shape, or form, while in the United States of America". The Israeli PM is due to visit Washington next week to attend the funeral of Republican US senator Lindsey Graham, and to meet with Trump.
