"Every dream begins with a little wonder," says luxury car-maker Ferrari, introducing its Holiday 2026 Campaign. How many of us are left wondering whether this is some kind of pastiche that's been driven in the wrong direction by AI? "An ordinary wardrobe opens the door to an extraordinary world" can be an engaging conceit whether or not we're familiar with the fiction fantasty world of Narnia; however, in this case, imagination brings the symbols and creations of Ferrari, rather than any higher aspiration, to life. In C.S.Lewis's magical realm, the idea was that kids got to help in the fight against dark forces. Some may term bizarre the juxtaposition of adult-sized stuff - loafers, helmets etc - and a child's sense of wonder. Ferrari further explains its AI-generated effort: "Inspired by the magic of discovery and the dreams that stay with us from childhood, the campaign celebrates the joy of wishing and the excitement of making those wishes come true". Right. A clever way of appealing to kids of allages, then. The Gift Guide does this "through a curated selection of creations reflecting different passions and personal connections to the Prancing Horse". What do you make of it - bizarre, a biting satire of what AI can achieve, a horrendous distortion of healthy childhood development, beautifully conceived and shot, a waste of time, fun and imaginative, unusual, a useful inspiration for the gift-buying this year? Or one of those ads which will actually spark an interesting conversation?
