Indian actor Boman Irani partners here with pharma company Lilly India to raise awareness around obesity. The strong 'it's not your fault' message challenges those concerned about encouraging reliance on medical solutions for conditions they perceive as manageable and even reversible through lifestyle, diet, and personal choice. "Complex biological factors, often beyond your control, can cause your body to resist weight loss, no matter how much effort you put in," says Lilly India. "That’s why willpower alone isn’t always enough". While most of us would agree that obesity is indeed a layered issue and that it's unhelpful to regard obesity / overweight as personal failure, not everyone is on board with the 'pill-pushing' approach. Founded in 1976 by Colonel Eli Lilly, a pharmacist and veteran of the American Civil War, pharma company Eli Lilly is hitting the headlines with record profits thanks to its obesity and weight-loss products - the latest of which is a pill format called Foundayo. The popularity of GLP-1 drugs - originally developed to help treat diabetes - continues to rage, with both Novo Nordisk's Ozempic and Eli Lilly's Foundayo pills showing strong early promise as consumers are happy to switch from injection pens. The soaring profits and rapid growth of this sector has led to concerns over as-yet unstable regulatory frameworks. This particular recent campaign has, according to newswire Reuters, "fallen under intense regulatory scrutiny due to new, stricter guidelines against surrogate advertising for weight-loss drugs". What do you think of it?
